I’ve concepted, pitched and sold numerous campaigns for Samsung Mobile. Here are just a few of the ones I helped create.
Samsung Wow Challenge • Samsung Superman Challenge • Samsung Blast Duel
Samsung Wow Challenge
Samsung Mobile wanted a global campaign to showcase a variety of innovative phones. So we created a series of inventive challenges—each inspired by one of three new and innovative phones—that would bring people together from all over the world to collaborate, play together, and compete in an online space.
We inspired users to create solar-powered alphabets for texting, put themselves into their art literally, and collaborate on a stop-motion video powered by their personal mottos. Ze Frank hosted the event, which benefited two great causes: Architecture for Humanity and The Nature Conservancy.
Samsung Superman Challenge
In “Superman Returns,” Samsung products were featured nearly as often as the Man of Steel. Yet Samsung decided against running a traditional tie-in campaign, even though they had a budget for one. My team and I jumped in with an idea that convinced Samsung to run a digital campaign including banners and a dedicated microsite.
Our idea was so well-received that three separate Samsung divisions (HDTV/Mobile/PC) worked together for the first and only time on an integrated marketing campaign. We created one of the earliest incarnations of an Escape-The-Room game, and challenged people to save the Daily Planet from being blown up by Lex Luther by using Superman’s powers and Samsung products.
Fun Fact: the plot of my first script mirrored the screenplay a little too much (even though I never read the script) and Bryan Singer asked me to rush out a rewrite to keep this project on schedule.
Samsung Blast Duel
This unique phone had a unique 2-tap QWARTY keypad for faster texting. To prove it, we created an interactive dueling video game where users could choose either the 2-tap or 3-tap phone to duel against the other phone.
